BabyDoge launched as a meme in June 2021. Memes don’t fund animal shelters for five years straight. Communities do.
BabyDoge launched in June 2021 and the community turned it into a global phenomenon within weeks — before any celebrity said a word. When Elon Musk tweeted the Baby Doge song, the project had already taken off. He poured fuel on a fire the community had lit.
What happened next was not in the plan. The community decided the attention was worth more than the price chart, and started pointing it at animal shelters. Not as a marketing campaign — as the actual point of the thing.
The record
On 20 May 2023, together with Best Friends Animal Society, the community set the Guinness World Records title for the largest donation of pet food in 24 hours — 36,750.88 kg (81,021 lb of pet food) in Bentonville, Arkansas, USA. Distributed to 30+ Arkansas shelters, foster carers and local pet owners. Previous title: 4,197.5 kg, set in 2012.
The title has since been broken by another organization. The food was still delivered, the shelters still received it, and the certificate still has our name on it.
Where we are now
BabyDoge publicly reports $1.5M+ given to animal welfare. Of that, $1,015,000 can be itemised by receiving organization with a public source — 26 shelters, charities and public agencies in 5 countries. Those are listed, with links, on the donation records page.
